Studi del fotografo italiano Paolo Patrizi dalla sua potente serie A disquieting intimacy, le fotografie si staccano dalla percezione stereotipata e spesso stretta del ritratto. Nell'atmosfera improvvisata e inquietante dei campi del sesso, Patrizi presenta uno studio intimo sulle donne di Benin City che lavorano ai margini di Roma e sulla loro vita.
In un mercato fortemente segmentato per sesso, età, titolo di studio e la scarsità di popolazione degli immigrati, l’economia sommersa in Italia attira lavoratori immigrati fornendo loro posti di lavoro senza regole - offusca la linea tra le imprese legittime e illegali. Da oltre 20 anni, le donne di Benin City in Nigeria si sono recate in Italia per lavorare nel mercato del sesso. Ogni anno, le donne più di successo reclutano le ragazze più giovani a seguire le loro orme. La maggior parte delle donne emigrate, comprese quelle che finiscono nel mercato del sesso, hanno una chiara decisione di uscire di casa e avere una possibilità d'oltremare. Sono donne testarde e ambiziose che emigrano per sfuggire a conflitti, persecuzioni, degrado ambientale, calamità naturali, e altre situazioni che riguardano il loro habitat e sostentamento. Hanno scelto una varietà di modi per sfruttare il loro patrimonio personale. Queste vanno da essere ballerine erotiche, a una vera e propria opera di contatto dei diversi livelli di intimità.
10bphotography in collaborazione con ILEX Gallery è lieta di presentare la serie di Paolo Patrizi di 19 stampe di grandi e medie dimensioni. La serie avrà il suo debutto italiano, dopo le mostre di Londra, Basilea, Praga, New Delhi e Chobi Mela Festival in Bangladesh e l'Angkor Photo Festival in Cambogia.
La serie 2009-2012 ha vinto numerosi premi e riconoscimenti, tra cui World Press Photo, Premio Taylor Wessing Ritratto e POYi.
Biografia
La carriera fotografica di Paolo Patrizi (Roma, 1965) inizia a Londra e prosegue a Tokyo per quasi un decennio per tornare di nuovo a Roma.

Studies by Italian photographer Paolo Patrizi from his powerful series, A disquieting intimacy, the photographs detach themselves from the stereotyped and often narrow perception of the portrait. In the improvised and disturbing atmosphere of the sex fields, Patrizi presents an intimate study of the women of Benin City who work on the outskirts of Rome and their lives. In a market strongly segmented by gender, age, educational qualification and the scarcity of immigrant population, the informal economy in Italy attracts immigrant workers by providing them with jobs without rules - blurring the line between legitimate and illegal businesses.
For over 20 years, women from Benin City in Nigeria have been going to Italy to work in the sex trade. Every year, the most successful women recruit the youngest girls to follow in their footsteps. Most migrant women, including those who end up in the sex market, have a clear decision to leave home and have a chance overseas. They are stubborn and ambitious women who emigrate to escape conflicts, persecution, environmental degradation, natural disasters, and other situations affecting their habitat and livelihood. They have chosen a variety of ways to exploit their personal heritage. These range from being erotic dancers, to a real work of contact between different levels of intimacy.

The series will have its Italian debut after exhibitions in London, Basel, Prague, New Delhi and Chobi Mela Festival in Bangladesh and the Angkor Photo Festival in Cambodia.
