….Garbatella IMAGES è un lavoro per immagini su un territorio abitato estremamente connotato. I tratti fisionomici - architettonici e urbani - che caratterizzano l'area dei lotti sono qui trattati su un doppio livello etimologico: immagine/immaginazione, paese/paesaggio, proprio per spingerli un po’ più in là rispetto alla caratterizzazione comune con cui li riconosciamo e tenere aperta la relazione tra realtà e interiorità. Attraverso il laboratorio "Territorio personale", in collaborazione con WSP Photography, è stato chiesto agli abitanti dei lotti la loro storia per immagini, fotografie emerse dagli album di famiglia, per espandere il racconto dal piano visivo a quello narrativo fino all’evento collettivo: un’esposizione delle fotografie come lenzuola in mezzo ai panni degli stenditoi, negli spazi resi sociali dall’edilizia del luogo.

In questi luoghi si sono mossi Giovanni Cocco e Francesco Zizola, restituendoci due lavori inediti profondamente diversi sull’abitare il “paesaggio Garbatella”. In "Plantarium, piccolo atlante botanico della Garbatella", le piante ritratte da Cocco emergono da una sospensione di fondo, ritagliate nel buio notturno dei cortili sono produttrici di silenzio e di surreale sacralità, come impresse in un antico erbario dipinto. Il lavoro di Zizola è segnato dalla sua permanenza nel quartiere da anni. Conosce come la luce del sole si sposta tra i cortili, come colpisce i panni stesi, come evidenza gli scalini di un’entrata.

Zizola ritrae Garbatella secondo una dimensione umana dello spazio urbano, e anche se i corpi non ci sono quasi mai, l’atmosfera si compone intorno alla loro presenza

..Garbatella IMAGES is a work by images on an extremely characterized inhabited territory. The architectural and urban physiognomy that characterize the area of the city garden are treated here on a double etymological level: image / imagination, land/ landscape, just to push them a little further than the common characterization with which we recognize them and keep the relationship between reality and interiority open. Through "Personal Territory" workshop, in collaboration with WSP Photography, the inhabitants of the city garden have researched their story by images. Photographs emerged from the family albums, to expand the story from the visual to the narrative up to the collective event: an exhibition of images as sheets in the clothes racks, in spaces made social by the architecture of the place.

In these spaces Giovanni Cocco and Francesco Zizola moved, giving us back two completely different works on living the "Garbatella landscape". In "Plantarium, a small botanical atlas of the Garbatella", the plants portrayed by Cocco emerge from a background suspension, cut out in the nocturnal darkness of the courtyards, producing silence and surreal sacredness, as impressed in an ancient painted herbarium.

Zizola's work is marked by his stay in the neighborhood for years. He knows how the light of the sun moves between the courtyards, how it strikes the clothes hanging, how it highlights the steps of an entrance. Zizola portrays Garbatella according to a human dimension of the urban space, and even if the bodies are almost never there, the atmosphere is composed around their presence….
