….Dopo il successo del workshop del 2015 che ha portato alla creazione del libro Kazuma Obaraʼs handmade book 30, in seguito tra i vincitori del World Press Photo 2016, riproponiamo l’esperienza con Teun van der Heijden, questa volta affiancato da Sandra van der Doelen. Entrambi guideranno gli iscritti, nell’arco di cinque giorni full immersion, nel mondo del Book Design.

Il workshop è destinato a quei fotografi che pensano di avere un corpo di fotografie interessanti o che stanno lavorando da tempo ad un progetto. Un’occasione da non perdere per chi è pronto ad affrontare il mondo della fotografia contemporanea di alto livello. Il workshop è orientato a fortificare un circuito di relazioni e di incontri in grado di stimolare discussioni e trovare soluzioni creative ai problemi che sorgono nel momento del passaggio da immagini singole a libro fotografico.

Sotto la guida di Teun e Sandra le vostre fotografie si trasformeranno di layout in layout in un progetto di libro e in un menabò.

Com'è articolato il workshop

Durante i cinque giorni di workshop al 10b photography di Roma, Teun e Sandra accompagneranno gli iscritti verso un percorso di creazione di un idea e di un layout partendo da un’insieme di fotografie. I principali passi teorici e pratici che gli studenti si troveranno ad affrontare saranno:

• Il Photoediting
• Il Processo Compilativo
• Lo Sviluppo Concettuale
• Aspetti di Design e Decisioni Progettuali (dimensione, carta, layout)
• La Tipografia e la Guida al Processo di Stampa

E’ un oggetto tangibile che, nonostante si tratti di una riproduzione, contiene in sé l’aura dell’originale oggetto d’arte - in questo caso la fotografia. ..10b is happy to announce a photo book workshop with Sandra van der Doelen e Teun van der Heijden, aimed to transform a photographic project into a photo book. Sandra e Teun are known as the designers of many award winning books and have been teaching photo book workshops all over the world. In 2015 10b organized a successful photo book workshop with Teun van der Heijden and Jan Rosseel. One of the books that was originated in the workshop was Kazuma Obaraʼs handmade book 30. With a part of the project Kazuma won the 1st prize stories of the category people of World Press Photo in 2016. At the five day workshop at 10b Photography in Rome, Teun van der Heijden and Sandra van der Doelen will teach all aspects of how to turn a body of work into a book. Subjects that will be discussed are: editing and compiling process, concept development, design decisions like choice of size, paper, grid and typography, and the guidance of the printing process. The workshop is designed for photographers who are interested in working on a concept, edit and sequence for a book. All the photographers will be expected to partecipate in pushing each other creatively and conceptually in discussing ways to problem solve the medium shift between singular images to the book as an object in the current environment of photography.

The paper photobook represents solidity, something we can literarily hold on to. It is a tangible object and it has the aurea of an original art object. ….SCOPO DEL WORKSHOP..REQUIREMENTS….

….Durante i cinque giorni di workshop, Sandra e Teun condivideranno la propria esperienza nel lavoro di ideazione che sta alla base del libro fotografico e della sua produzione. Attraverso le fasi principali della realizzazione di un libro - dal concept al compimento - sfideranno gli studenti a pensare al di fuori del proprio orizzonte concettuale.

Il workshop consiste in lezioni frontali, classi pratiche e il lavoro individuale sul proprio libro; il risultato sarà la produzione di un menabò da parte di ognuno dei partecipanti. Il workshop verrà diviso in due parti. In un primo momento gli studenti saranno incoraggiati a condividere tra loro e con gli insegnanti le proprie idee. La seconda parte sarà incentrata sull’idea singola di ogni studente per arrivare alla realizzazione finale di un menabò. ..The workshop is aimed at photographers with a substantial project or body of work and are planning a pubblication. In addition to the images, the participants are encouraged to bring any other materials that can be potentially incorporated into thei pubblication, such a texts, graphic elements, objects, archivial material, ephemera etc. It is highly recommended to bring along your B and C selections of pictures, including pictures you have doubts about or might find less interesting. A laptop with Indesign and Photoshop is a must, as well as small prints (roughly 10 x 15 cm or 4 x 6 cm) of your project for editing on the first days. Language used in the workshop is English, submission is open to students of all nationalities…..
